Classroom Asset: Measuring Friction
Main content start
On June 26, 2019, the DDL team tested friction at the Thunderhill skid pad. X1 was programmed to drive in a circle with a constant radius of 20 m at increasing speed until the car lost traction and spun out (and we had a lot of fun while doing it!)
This test is part 3 of a 3 part test which includes:
- Testing Constant Acceleration
- Testing Full Power Acceleration
- Measuring Friction
Variables:
- Time: t_s
Measured in seconds - Longitudinal speed: ux_mps
Measured in meters/second - Lateral speed: uy_mps
Measured in meter/second - Yaw Rate: r_rad
Measured in radians/second - Heading: psi_rad
Measured in radians counter-clockwise from north
